It is born in Lake Villarrica and flows 14.5km south of Nueva Toltén. Suitable for sport fishing, photography and excursions. It becomes navigable in its lower course and so fishermen descend in their boats from Pitrufquén. Toltén River was the obligatory passage to travel to Valparaiso and Santiago, embarking on the steamboats that dealt from Queule. In the Mission of Toltén, Pascual Coña and his occasional companions stayed overnight after making long and exhausting passages to and from Valdivia.
